See this really cool Online Form?

cool-tools-form.png

I created it at:

http://forms3.createforms.com/65773/form_1_1.html

You can also create a Free Website, Online Scheduler, set up an Appointment Scheduler for a business (allowing clients to make their own appointments online), create a Classified Ad site, a Membership Site, a Forum, etc., or help yourself to a multitude of other useful tools … and all free!

There is a paid-upgrade service, which I’m sure is awesome, but the free version of the create-a-form I used seemed to work just fine for me.  Try it!  All kinds of cool things to enhance your website, blog, etc.

Oh … and feel free to use the Form I created to let us in on YOUR favorite Cool Online Tools!

Cigarette Fund for Disabled Veterans

AddThis Social Bookmark Button

May 17, 2009 - 2:55 am - Posted by Linda Martin-Peoples

Whether or not you agree with smoking, some of our Disabled Veterans in Nursing Homes do smoke, and have little else to look forward to during the day than “smoke breaks”.

Additionally, if on Medicaid, they receive a total of $40 per month in “spending money” to spend as they like.

Smokers know that the cost of cigarettes is rapidly approaching “sky-high”…even Generic brands !

At this point in time, some Veterans can’t afford much more than one carton of cigarettes a month, and if you are a smoker yourself, you know that is really a “s-t-r-e-t-c-h”!

I have no doubt that I will receive some flack for this, but I am committing to VetsNiteOut.org to help raise some money for cigarettes for Disabled Veterans.  If you would care to chip-in a little, you can use my “Chip-In” widget at the top of this page.

Also, if you have your own blog or website, and agree with this cause, please feel free to add my “Chip-In” widget to your own site (just click the ”Copy” button on my Chip-In widget) , and we’ll reach the goal much faster!

Thanks a million!

vno-masthead.gif

Yes, I know, it’s been way too long.  Sorry about that.  My bad.

Actually, it hasn’t been that I haven’t had anything to report … it’s just that I have been knee-deep in helping with another project for the past 4 months … one that I am actually very proud to be part of.

 It’s at www.VetsNiteOut.org if you’re interested.

In a nutshell, there is this guy in Tennessee, USA, who, in his spare time, goes around asking different restaurants if they would be willing to treat a few Disabled Veterans living in Nursing Homes to an occasional nice meal, or Nite*Out… (as a token of respect and appreciation for those who served our great Country).

And the response has been truly overwhelming!  I don’t believe he’s had anyone say “no” yet!

It’s really a win-win idea!  The Veterans have a great time getting out for awhile, and the restaurants are proud to have them!

(So what’s my connection to Vets’Nite*Out?

The “guy” is my husband.)

Ok, back to some more CoolOnlineTools!

Since the focus right now seems to be on “the economy”, I thought maybe we’d start with some “consumer-oriented” cool online tools!

  got-reception.png  Cell Phone Wars continue!

So many different gadgets to choose from!

So many different colors and styles …

So many different Carriers …

Well, one thing you may want to consider is RECEPTION!

I’m sure you already know that some cell phones work better in some location than others … you’ve no doubt experienced “dead zones”, “dropped calls”, and downright rotten service …  but how can you know which cell phones/carriers are going to work best for you in your area before you buy?

Got Reception? to the rescue.  Plug in you address or zip code (appears to be US only, but a Google search of ”cell phone reception” or the like would no doubt render similar results in another country) and you’ll know in a flash which phone/carrier will work best for you in a given area!

Got Reception? also boasts of over 39,000 real-live consumer reviews, as well … always a plus when trying to decide on an important purchase … especially one involving a contract!

costhelper.png This is actually a pretty useful site for comparing costs of items you may be thinking about purchasing.

The Directory includes hundreds of topics on everything from Babies and ChildCare to Electronics to Pets to Small Business, Sports and Fitness, Weddings … you name it, it’s pretty much covered.

Also includes actual comments by people who purchased.

I was a little disappointed in one of the things I would have appreciated info on: online pet medications/pharmacies.   I’m sure the info is probably covered in one of the topics on Pets, it just would have been nice if it had been more readily available or easily accessible for the “short on time and patience” folks like myself.

Still a good site …

Check it out.  CostHelper.

ehow.png I love this site!

Not only is it true to its name, but it is very light and refreshing.  They seem to have combined the best of “providing information” with “community”, as apparently anyone can add their own “2-cents”.

I’m usually not all that big on “social sites”, perse, but this one I really like!

Today’s home page alone offers info on “how to safely take down Christmas decorations”, ”how to do eye make-up”, “how to cool an over-heated engine”, “how to live a simpler, sweeter life”, “how to use 4-wheel drive in snow”, and on and on … one could probably pretty safely say that there is something for everyone at eHow. Very diverse and “friendly-feeling”.  Check it out!

Till next time …

P.S. I should be able to resume reporting regularly very shortly.  Thanks for your patience!

Wishing you a wonderful New Year!

And if you are like most people I know, you can barely find your important mail for all the “junk mail” in your mailbox!

ProQuo.com seems to have some pretty promising solutions for us in the various ways of selecting which mailing lists we wish to be on… and those we don’t … as well as which catalogs we’d like to receive …or not!

Check it out … it seems like a very worthwhile free service:

Beware of Ransomware

AddThis Social Bookmark Button

Get Cool Online Tools delivered by email

computer-guy.gif I thought this information to be so important that I wanted to let you know about it right away!

Additionally, I am copying it directly from the Newsletter of the great folks over at World Start.

When you get a chance, take a look at their website at www.worldstart.com/ .  They have extraordinary deals on software, gadgets, games, etc. all the time (really!) and wonderful Computer Tips… kind of like the great one I am copying for you below:

Today's Feature

Ransomware

I’m sure all of you have heard of worms, Trojans, adware, spyware and viruses, right? Those nasty little bugs are the reason for troublesome computer problems throughout the world. Well, today, I have a new type of attack to add to the list. This type of bug is called ransomware. Ransomware has been around for awhile in the computer world, but it hasn’t really taken off until recently.

So, what is ransomware, you ask?

Well, ransomware is technically a program. It basically takes over your computer and then requires you to pay to get your system back to normal. Usually, it will infect your system through a bad Web site or via a pop up window, but it can also come in through an e-mail attachment or a download. Once your system is infected with the bad software, it will let you know right away. More than likely, you will see a screen come up that tells you what damage will be done to your computer if you don’t pay in time. It will require you to pay in a certain way and in turn, you will be given a code to turn off the software and stop the damage from continuing.

There are a couple well known ransomware programs currently in use around the Web. One is called Ransom.A. That program will tell you it will destroy one file every 30 minutes until the ransom is paid. This program seems very bad, but in reality, it does no damage to your system. It is simply a scare tactic to get you to pay the fee. While this specific ransomware causes no damage to your system, there are several others that truly do what they say. Those programs can cause serious harm to your computer or they simply just embarrass the infected user by popping up pornographic material on their screen.

No matter what the damage, it’s important to protect your computer against these growing threats. The good news is you don’t need to have any additional protection on your system to shield you from ransomware. If you keep your antivirus software up to date and have a good pop up blocker, you will remain safe from these threats. If your system should end up infected with one of these programs, do not panic and do not pay the ransom! It’s best to run a full system scan with your antivirus software instead. The program can then be found and removed. If it’s not removed, your antivirus company should give you a link to a Web site with removal steps. Until next time, stay safe out there, my friends!

~ Gary
